EThekwini And Civil Society Hand Out PPE To Waste Pickers

As part of the Waste Picker Integration Programme, the Waste Management Directorate, together with PETCO Producer Responsibility Organisation and the South African Waste Pickers Association (SAWPA), recently distributed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to 170 registered Waste Pickers. This initiative forms part of the City’s broader commitment to integrate waste pickers into the municipal waste value chain, improving safety and dignity, while recognising their crucial role in recycling and reducing pressure on landfills.

By empowering Waste Pickers with the tools and support they need, we are building a cleaner, more sustainable, and inclusive future for all.
